Dr. Sean Rafajko, PhD

I am a Co-Founder and Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Unity Neuropsychology in Park Ridge, IL, specializing in comprehensive, evidence-based neuropsychological and psychological assessments, as well as providing tailored support for children, adolescents, and adults navigating complex neurodevelopmental, cognitive, and mental health needs.

I have been in the mental health field for over 15 years. My journey began while pursuing my BA and taking on my first jobs in the field. Those early experiences fostered a deep passion for holistic understanding and care, interpersonal growth, and the importance of community systems. This drive brought me to Chicago to pursue my Ph.D. at Illinois Institute of Technology, where my research focused on community integration, disability attitudes, and neurodivergent support systems.

My clinical experience is broad, spanning outpatient assessment and therapy, community mental health, inpatient hospitals, and residential programs. I bring all of these experiences to both my assessments and therapy. I approach every client holistically and with deep curiosity, seeking to understand them as people, not just symptoms. All of my work is grounded in an evidence-based, integrative, relational approach that relies on accurate and full diagnostic and personal understanding. My therapy approach draws from cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-commitment, systems-based, and humanistic therapies.

I have often been told that I don’t “sound like a psychologist.” This is because I value genuineness, openness, and honesty above all else. You will find that I bring a lighthearted, fun-loving mood into the room, while remaining deeply present and grounded for the times when life is difficult.

Outside of the clinic, I love spending time with my wife and three kids and taking in new experiences around the world through travel. I am an avid home DIY-er who enjoys cooking, great food, and a good beer. Even though I am originally from rural Wisconsin, I am a dedicated Chicago sports fan, especially when it comes to cheering on Chicago Fire FC and the Bears, and I love exploring this beautiful city.
